An AAAA record is an IP address in the newly introduced IPv6 format and it is made up of 8 different sets of hexadecimal numbers, as opposed to the IPv4 IPs, which feature 4 groups of numbers in between 1 and 255. An illustration of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and in this format the total number of IPs that may be created is many times larger than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Every single domain name has its hosting server IP as a record and in essence, this unique record instructs the domain name where the website for it is. Depending on the system the company uses, the record will be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record allows you to host your website with one company and your emails with another, so if you choose to use this sort of redirection to point a domain name to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you will have to set up an AAAA record for it.
AAAA Records in Shared Website Hosting
If you'd like to set up a new AAAA record for any domain name or subdomain hosted in your shared website hosting account, it will not take you more than several easy steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is quite intuitive to use and it will enable you to create or edit any record without difficulty. After you log in and visit the DNS Records section, in which you'll discover all present records for your domain names and subdomains, you will just have to click the "New" button, select AAAA from a small drop-down menu within the pop-up that'll show up, type or paste the required IPv6 address and save the modification - it is as easy as that. The new record shall be 100% active within no more than 1 hour and the hostname that you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If required, you are also going to be able to modify the TTL (Time To Live) value, which reveals the time in seconds the new record will be active after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply erase it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Setting up a new AAAA record is incredibly easy using our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain name in a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you require such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you have set up under it, you are going to be able to create it in just a few rather simple steps and with no hassle. Hepsia features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains where you can find all existing records or create new ones with several mouse clicks. All it takes to achieve that is to choose the domain/subdomain you need to edit, select AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and type the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address which the other company has given you. Within an hour after you save the modification, the newly created record is going to propagate worldwide and your Internet domain will start forwarding to the third-party hosting server. If they demand it, you can also modify the TTL value, which indicates the time this record is going to be functioning with its current value before a new one kicks in if you make any changes in the future.
