When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular service provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically when the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain address where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that deals with the e-mails for that specific domain. The website and the e-mail hosting are generally regarded as one thing, when they are in fact two different services. Having independent records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you would like. For instance, some new service provider could have exceptional uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you can get the best of both companies. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an e-mail - either way, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.
Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting
If you have a shared website hosting package through us, you are going to be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your domain names. Provided that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify particular records using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or e-mails pointed to any other provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool is going to enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain in any way. If you want to use the email services of a different provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with only a couple of clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan through our company, you will be able to view and change the A and MX records for any of the domains or subdomains you host inside the account. The Hepsia CP, which you will get to handle the account, comes with an sophisticated, though easy-to-use tool in which all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to modify their records with no more than a few clicks. If you have to create a new record, it's going to be equally easy - pick the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you'll be ready. Additionally, you will be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to create additional records other than the 2 default ones. If you ever encounter any difficulties, we have a in-depth Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or edit any record.
